From the Director of Public Works

To the Colonial Secretary.

ultimo.

"I have read Commodore Palliser's letter of the 30th

2. I deny that the Navy is hampered with any objection or

objections that do not exist.

3. The enclosures accompanying the Commodore's letter of

the 25th of April are not before me, but I carefully perused

them and I believe I am right in stating that there was nothing

either in the correspondence or on the plans to shew that it

was intended that the 1,000 yards point should be to the left

of the 900 yards point.

4. In the absence of any information to the contrary I

assumed it was intended to be in line with the butts and the

900 yards point as shewn on the plan accompanying my report of

the 10th ultimo.

5. However the remarks I then made equally apply if the

proposed 1,000 yards point is intended to be in a line with the

600, 700 and 500 yards points.

8. The line of fire also crosses the site proposed for the

Hospital for Asiatic Troops,

7. I have marked in pencil on the plan the 900 and 1,000

yards radii arcs from which it will be seen the possible points

without

on the latter are very limited necessitating the line of fire

crossing a public road, and it must either do this or cross the

site of proposed Military Hospital. In the event of the 900

yards point being all that is required from the best informa-

tion
